look at this A7sii Mod: http://www.centralds.net/cam/?p=7911
i like your approach a lot!
the super8 idea ist great, especially for artists and hobbyists who want to get in touch with AXIOM.
Also this has the opportunity to get people on board because it is a low threshold first contact to the project.

@Gookfilm how do you want to connect the handle to the body electronically?

Given that better stick with a Sony, Anton Bauer, Panasonic, or other manufacturer solution.

Using 4 cells with a single pcb on top, forming a unit of battery.
This unit can be stacked to form the size of battery you want, in 4, 8, 12, 16 cells and so.
that sounds good.
From the electronics perspective there is no major change between the two. You can desing different cases that hold the amount of cells each camera needs.
I think tho, that we need to find a common connector and holding for all the batteries. So you can interchange them between different models of cameras.
What i see a little tricky is the hot swappable battery.
What about having a dual battery mount (two smaller batteries (8cells each) instead of one 16 cell battery)? would it be hot swappable then if you exchange one after another?
Nov 3 2017
@Menga yesterday we worked on the design of the more mature and ergonomic camera body for the beta. a few questions popped up: is it possible to cover a smaller battery (8 cells) and big (16cells) with the same electronic design?
please evaluate if the outer measurements of the battery could change to something more flat like: 130 x 80 x 40 mm
Oct 23 2017
Oct 6 2017
@Menga i would opt for the 'less waste' and cheaper cells option ;)
do you think that using 16 cells instead of 8 would be also possible with the same pcb?
Sep 25 2017
is it possible to shrink the with by 5mm?
Maybe. We could put the batteries sideways, but still need a litle space for the protection pcb and connector. We could do 95mm width 80mm height with this arrangement.
If you refer to the atx connector in the mockup, is just a reference, there are much lower profile connectors avalible.
ah, ok ;)
i agree an all the electronic decisions (simple as possible battery - modules) you suggested, they sound good to me.
@Menga i like your design approach. does the hight and width (-the space for the hdmi/sdi connectors) match exactly to the backside of the beta enclosure? what about separating the cells in two groups and have one or two screws in the middle instead of having them on the sides. in that case we could also allow the package to be mounted under the camera and still be abel to mount it on a tripod. does 21700 cells also fit inside?
Sep 24 2017
Does it need a 'PIC' to have status LED's directly on the battery? that is something which is really useful (checking batteries when they are somewhere in the pocket..)
What are the extra costs going for the more complex battery design? We can have different battery capacities so that you won't need to own more than two batteries.

Material suggestion: aluminium profile in combination with plastic 3d printed inner parts
Jul 11 2017
@TWiGGZ as you see there is no urgent need for this product but if you are interested feel free to experiment and design some 3d-printable dummys, the only thing which seems clear is that we go for the NP-F battery system. (i am on holiday from now on and will respond later this month)
Jul 7 2017
Than lets go the np-f way (for now) !
@davidak: good idea, or the 21700 cells which will gain popularity when gigafactory starts to produce. 1 Wh costs about 0,4$ = great! battery solution not only for cameras- universal open source powerbank arround the smallest possible pice from the industry -> the cell
Jul 6 2017
you are right.
Jul 5 2017
NO! that is a mistake, if you are using rods, than you put them ON the rods behind the camera.. usually..
and if there are no rods it is good to attach it to the body of the camera directly to make one sturdy body.
don't you think so?
good point.. maybe two (upright) next to each other on the back side ?
on the other hand this 'brick' will fit everywhere on a rig..
Jul 3 2017
hi, what about such a hot swap- double battery design which fits under the camera or somewhere on the rig?
for 4A it is also good to have two batteries so that (the cheap ones) don't get hot too much.
Jun 25 2017
@TWiGGZ that's fine! which proposal do you prefer?
for me it is still the first one with the sony NP-F batteries. it is the simplest solution especially because non of us two can do electronics.

As i See it now, the projects overview page could be in the center and there for the lab landing page. One project, the first in list needs to be a guide.
The project page itself would become Mord useful if we can add other elements than tasks to the kanban-workboards or different Kind if boards which are more social valuable (calendar, picture, chat, activity, wiki, file storage, log book,...) like trello does.

agree, but just to have the soldering option for handheld use if it is easy and cost free to make..?
One thing we have to think of Ehen choosing faders is that the physical Position can be different from the actual Software value when we allow Software control as well. Just to be aware.. I like the idea if faders, the actual remote concept put those extra features on extensions. You See it can n this (old) concept here:
would it be possible to add soldering for some kind of mechanical feedback (vibrating device, small hammers) which are munted to the enclosure?
I want to start a list of your most used controls while recording sorted by priority. this rank can help us programming our first remote.

i am looking forward to find the answer to the question: who is the community?
Oct 30 2015
i got the data sheets for the mentioned lcd
@Walter : no, not necessarely. If one of the existing methods (e.g. sociocracy) fits, i would just See how we adapt it to our Situation. As far as i unterstand it sociocracy is a system wich defines how communication is stuctured and how roles are distributed. We need to think about which roles do we need, etc. What do you think?
Oct 29 2015
why we don't work on a proposal/ presentation of our (everybody who want's to join this conversation) vision of decision making in axiom.
I know it's pretty late for such an input, but i wonder if we have decided right.
Shouldnt we opt for an transreflective LCD? Something like that one
I searched arround a while for sunlight readable displays and the best which comes up are transreflective-monochrome ones. Just now i held my audio recorder with it's monochrome LCD in my Hand and i am impressed by it's readability.
We made the decision already therefore i totally understand if we stick to it!
Oct 28 2015
It is good to hear that we have an expert in sociocracy ;)
Maybe we should start by designing a questionnaire to gather people's opinion and to raise the publicity of this topic.

@getzi "We should make a "get involved"-button somewhere on the landing page. "
absolutely, an invitation direct on the fist contact page would also show that it is an open and transparent project.
direct behind that button there should be an easy to understand explanation of the communication structure and the actual topics i think. this explanation should happen through clear and good design as through words. it should show an overview of the vivid community i think.
Sep 3 2015
@getzi i agree on rethinking the communication out of different user-perspectives. and i like the idea of 'less information as absolutely possible' especially for new comers.
