gitlab ci is indeed a good idea :). the mirroring from github is also possible in the public instance but very bugy. to work around this we can create another repository with gitlab ci, which only pulls from github and pushes to gitlab, and is triggered by a github webhook. I did exactly this setup for another project and it works very well...

What about gitlab-ci? I have an ansible playbook for setup so it would be doable in minutes as long as someone provides a server. We could mirror the github repo and have gitlab as (more or less) transparent tool in the middle.

generally i like https://drone.io/ as a CI. it executes the build in docker containers, so you have a clean invironment every time but it is as easy as Travis. it is open source, you can install it on your own server that has docker (it runs in a docker container itself). they currently don't have a public instance, but will privide paid services in the future and probaply free for open source projects like in the past.

I think travis wouldn't be the optimal solutions for firmware builds, because we need some special tools with proprietary licenses for building the fpga bitstreams and more build time than the 50 minutes travis gives you for free. Imo http://concourse.ci would be a good solution, because it would allow us to create quite modular pipelines for the firmware.

If the main goal is to avoid coloured highlight (i.e. one channel being saturated and thus tinting the bright areas) then there is a simple way which was already suggested several times (only applicable for adjusted live view):

  • Select a safe range for all channels (e.g. 0-240 of 255)
  • When any channel goes over the limit (240), increase the other channels proportionally till they all meet at 255

Note that this will make any saturated colour white, which might not be the desired outcome, but any guessing has some corner cases.

You're not quite getting it. It would probably easier for you to understand by looking at an example of it in action. If you had a raw data sample in DNG format of a clipped source (such as a domestic light near a white wall) you could load it into Resolve and try turning hightlight recovery on and off - then you'll see the detail appear and disappear in pixels near to the point of clipping (it's often more dramatic with off white lights)
