publish Axiom Alpha Timeline to communicate more than "it is complex and a lot of things have been and still are happening in parallell"
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

make http://www.13thfloor.at/~herbert/axiom_alpha_timeline.pdf readable and self-explaining to newcomers, without overloading the sheet

  • missing descriptions ( Task starting at the "o" of novemeber - describe or omit ?)
  • explain acronyms ( so that nobody has to google them ) or add them to glossary - could be tricky, because "everybody" seems to know HDMI & HDMI 2 (?) & Open Hardware - happily found Sensor Front End, still missing Inter Board Communication (?) , and the Free Programmable Normalizer (??) , as well as an explicit reference to the FPGA
  • connect objects with verbs, e.g. develop ZedBoards & connect verbs with objects e.g. review ... ( what ? )
  • timeline/year ( 1014/15 ? )
  • explain colour code (red, yellow, green, .. ) if there is a meaning beyond distinction

a very cool tool for timelines (presented online only) is timelinejs : http://timeline.knightlab.com/

You fill a google doc spreadsheet with all the infos, and it create some really nice interactive timeline.

stress should be put on not overloading the sheet - btw. google spreadsheet is really great - I think exact dates would not be needed, IMHO week of year suffice.
Preview is even greater!!!

it can be done as well, let me check that

I think we can consider this as fixed.

  • Code for embed is :
<iframe src='http://cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed/?source=0Agl_Dv6iEbDadHdKcHlHcTB5bzhvbF9iTWwyMmJHdkE&font=Bevan-PotanoSans&maptype=toner&width=600&height=600' width='600' height='600' frameborder='0'></iframe>

If we want to embed it in an article we either need to host timelinejs ourselves or embedd a HTTPS iframe.

we could host ourselves, but it would be quite a bit more hassle.

this probably will work :

Replace the "http://cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed" in the url with "https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.knightlab.com/libs/timeline/latest/embed". That did it for me!
The new url is https and so you can embed it within secure sites..

Thanks, works!

Lets give this timeline its own article:

Added a bit of introduction text, https://apertus.org/axiom-saga-history-article-article-2014

Please review and approve.

I've made a few edits in the introduction, as some of the wording and grammar required improvement

Great thanks.

Please take another look at the first sentence, I think it can be shortened.

added a full screen link that opens in another window

The peer review image does not work for some reason, maybe we have a better one than the PCB panel one?

I've shortened the first sentence. How does it feel now?

Sasha, I am afraid you changed the meaning of the text once again.

"The AXIOM project has already surpassed a number milestones, and yet more are being achieved right now." -> We are not achieving tons of milestones right now. The original sentence was "even more things are happening right now".

Sasha added a comment.Nov 25 2014, 2:15 AM

Ok, I've corrected this again. And now?

perfect.

Will publish soon.

Some more feedback about image selection from Herbert:

SFE design: lets use this instead: http://vserver.13thfloor.at/Stuff/AXIOM/ALPHA/qad-center.png

submission: shows bottom side maybe we can find something better

peer review: shows something not AXIOM related

case: shows an outdated design, better use this: http://vserver.13thfloor.at/Stuff/AXIOM/ALPHA/ZedBoardBox_v11.eps

Overlays: lets use the pong video showing us playing pong instead the aprils fool video

updated images according to suggestions.

OK from Herbert, ready for release!
