I haven't forgotten this, but i really had no time.

Now i'm working on it!

WIP:

(that is the start page with menues and content, social media links are missing)

Here are the promised website access stats for the last month:

The apertus°-Project has 2 sides:

  • Products someone can buy (in online Shop) or maybe later rant from companies in our Ecosystem
  • a community effort to create an open video capturing plattform (open hardware camera, free software firmware, ...)

The website should reflect that.

Main Menu

apertus° News Products Development About [ ]

terminology:

  • apertus° - startpage, what is this all about
  • News - recent informations and reports
  • Products - Shop with things you can actually buy or get for free (in the near future) like AXIOM Beta, Remote, later Open Cine and Elmyra, very few information to sell our devices, answering "why should i buy this instead of any other camera?"
  • Development - status of current development and information how anyone can participate, list of projects and devopment platforms
  • About - informations about the apertus°-Project, it's history and values (why open hardware, free software, why the ° in one sentence)
  • Search to find any information a user wants

maybe buy apertus.com for the company website and sell ready to use products there?

Agreed - the absolute cleanest (not the best solution IMHO though) would be to have two websites: apertus.org for the community side, axiom-camera.com for the commercial side. In reality I think doing this would confuse the hell out of everyone as there is so much overlap everywhere that its impossible to separate the two without sending people in circles.

two websites: apertus.org for the community side, axiom-camera.com for the commercial side

that would be one option. the domain would be good for SEO rank. but i think you are right. in the near future customers of a camera will still need informations from the community pages.

another option would be my latest structure outline. same domain but different pages. still same content as with 2 domains:

apertus.org/products/axiom-beta-camera (Shop with description of finished product and pictures, one video)
apertus.org/development/axiom-beta-camera (all technical details and development status)

That is still very redundant but i think we can't put it on one page. even if we could integrate the shop into the CMS page it might be a legal issue if we write "4K recording" and the buyable product don't offer that yet..

So we must differentiate between the current state of the buyable product and the possibilities we might have in the future.

Maybe there is another option?

The URL structure is quite good!

https://www.apertus.org/axiom-beta
https://www.apertus.org/contact
https://www.apertus.org/donate

We should retain them. Some could be improved.

https://www.apertus.org/views/beta-news (views is a technical thing of the CMS no visitor needs)
https://www.apertus.org/axiom-team-talk-volume-11-article-november-2016 (/news/... would be good)

I personally like it to just have one domain. It's also better for SEO since search engines treat subdomains as different sites. Also the www Subdomain is a thing from the 90s :P

https://wiki.apertus.org/index.php/Main_Page
https://lab.apertus.org/
https://shop.apertus.org/

I would like:

https://apertus.org/donate
https://apertus.org/wiki
https://apertus.org/lab

It is very important to not break links! So old URLs should get redirected with HTTP CODE 301 if we change them.

A sitemap would be helpful for that.

actual page structure and content

apertus° - startpage

(see photo above)

Slider as most important element with picture of current beta hardware and very short text what it is, also one picture about the values of the apertus project, maybe a video (i like videos to learn about new projects)

A little bit longer text about apertus and AXIOM with links to some other pages with more information.

Newsletter subscription widget

A short text that says that you can actually participate in our effort to create an open hardware cinema camera with link to development page

Links with Icon to our different places: Lab, Wiki, GitHub, Donate

And somewhere should be the Social media links to Facebook, Twitter, Google+, maybe also asa Textblock "You can follow our activities on Facebook, ..."

News

blog with recent informations and reports

Products

Shop with things you can actually buy or get for free (in the near future) like AXIOM Beta, Remote, later Open Cine and Elmyra, very few information to sell our devices, answering "why should i buy this instead of any other camera?"

same design and menu like other pages, it should not be noticible that is it anoher system

Development

Short introduction that this is a community project and everyone can contribute.

Description of our different systems. Where you can find what ressource. "You can also donate money to keep development going." Link to https://www.apertus.org/sponsors

Add content of https://www.apertus.org/hardware-contributions to https://www.apertus.org/sponsors

Links with Icon to Lab, Wiki, GitHub, Donate

"Join our IRC Channel or Mailinglist"

Projects

List of active or important projects with image and short description. Link to project page and to specific Lab, Wiki, GitHub pages.

About

A paragraph about the project and it's values. Why open hardware / free software? What does that mean for endusers?

One Paragraph about the project structure. Association / Company with links to specific pages (?)

https://www.apertus.org/association
https://www.apertus.org/company

The essence of this page in 1-2 (?) sentences: https://www.apertus.org/join-the-team

The Team / Who is behind that?

Picture of core team members
Caption with Names

"And a lot of sporadic contributors from all around the world." (is that true?)
Maybe a link to a list of all? https://www.apertus.org/team

History

1-5 paragraphs about the project history, some pictures.

(can be longer because it's the last section, but don't make the page too long)

How do we deal with all the content, for example on pages like this?

https://www.apertus.org/opensource

options:

  • summarize everything to one paragraph and put on one page from the menu
  • hide longer text, "show more" link extends it
  • link to a page that is not in the menu
  • ???
