Description
Davidak reported that the newsletter display is missing all text, he is using OpenExchange at mailbox.org.
Not sure. Luckily NLs are being hosted on the site now too - https://www.apertus.org/november-2018-news-article
Here is the source of the mail: https://privatebin.net/?819f3cc3901607de#UP+LzO2bUaz4pdYZRuwP75UNKrxaVsFlA+FVr7opELM=
The text seem to be there, but it is not rendered. This could have many reasons. Maybe it's related to OpenExchange or my Browser.
Can you reproduce the problem in any other Webmail?
I can reproduce it in Chromium 70.0.3538.110, Firefox 63.0.3 and GNOME Web 3.28.3.1 (aka epiphany). That's all browsers i have installed.
The problem is that each web-based mail service renders content differently, as it on its own replaces css tags and html elements.
We are already using a framework that is supposed to take care of as many of these situations as possible: https://mjml.io/ but it seems to not really cover all cases.
The HTML it outputs looks ugly and uses tables for layout - so a lot of actually bad practices but I guess they chose that approach on purpose.
The only way to debug this that I see is rather cumbersome: a webdeveloper has to sign up for an email address that is based on openexchange and then send newsletters into that account until it works.
You can use the test account there: Follow the Try Now and become David.
You find the address in the settings: https://gold.ox.io/appsuite/#!!&app=io.ox/settings&folder=virtual/settings/io.ox/settings/accounts
Can you send a test mail with the layout and only the text "Test"?
